How to Replace Nor Cold Cooling Units

Nor cold has been producing some of the best refrigerators in the RV industry for years now. But just like any other mechanical device they do eventually see their fair share of issues and will need to be replaced. JC Refrigeration is here to help.

Our remanufactured Nordic cooling units are made with superior materials and workmanship. This helps to ensure that you get a refrigerator replacement that will last for years to come. And the best part is that they are significantly less expensive than a new Norcold fridge.

One of the main reasons for a Norcold fridge failure is a corroded cooling unit. If you have yellow residue behind your fridge or if it has an ammonia smell that means your Norcold fridge cooling unit is failing and needs to be replaced.

When the fridge is reinstalled you need to run it for about a week without turning it on so the fluids in the refrigeration system mix up properly. You also want to give the new evaporator foam pack time to seat into the pocket correctly. During the installation process it is a good idea to run tape around the evaporator foam pack. This will help to keep the replacement evaporator from leaking into your refrigerator cabinet.

When a Dometic or Norcold fridge is installed the evaporator foam pack is placed inside the pocket with a putty-like material called thermal mastic. This mastic is designed to expand and seal the cooling unit to the rear of the refrigerator. But if it is misapplied air and moisture can leak into the refrigeration system and cause cooling problems and corrosion. JC Refrigeration replaces the mastic with a tube of expanding silicone foam to seal and insulate the evaporator foam pack. This greatly reduces leakage and sagging over time. Nor cold cooling units
