Ewarrants is an automated electronic system that improves the thoroughness, accuracy and speed of warrant and protection order submissions to Ohio’s Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), the background check systems used for preventing inadvertent gun sales to fugitives and other dangerous criminals. The eWarrants interface allows law enforcement to submit warrant and protection orders for processing immediately following judicial approval, while complying with state and federal security policy standards and operational requirements.

The eWarrants interface is an important component of Governor DeWine’s comprehensive plan to help law enforcement agencies in Ohio increase the number of outstanding warrants entered into LEADS and NCIC, which can help prevent inadvertent gun sales and reduce crime in our communities. The eWarrants interface is free for courts and law enforcement agencies to use.

In addition to its many benefits to law enforcement, eWarrants also enables the court to more easily track and process warrant requests and ensure that the correct information is transmitted in every case. It also reduces the administrative workload for court staff by reducing paper handling and allowing them to focus on other priority tasks.
